My name is Matilde Santos and I’m currently doing my Master in Dental Hygiene at Faculdade de Medicina Dentária - Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, under the supervision of Professors Sandra Ribeiro Graça and Victor Abreu Assunção.

For my thesis I’m developing a project which aims to study the Experiences of Violence and Sexual Harassment (EVSH) of Dental Hygienists at work.

Workplace violence has become an increasing problem, being a violation of human rights and an unacceptable behaviour, incompatible with decent working conditions. Studies have shown that the health sector is considered one of the most prone to exposure to workplace violence. The results of a recent systematic review show that the most frequent type of violence against oral health professionals are physical and verbal abuse and sexual harassment, however there is a lack of studies focusing on workplace violence specifically against Dental Hygienists.

The study aims to create and validate a tool to evaluate the EVSH of Dental Hygienists at work and compare the frequencies and prevalences of such acts between countries. For now, I’m focusing on countries that are part of the European Dental Hygienists Federation.

שמי מתילד סנטוס ואני עושה כעת את המאסטר שלי בהיגיינה דנטלית ב- Faculdade de Medicina Dentária - Universidade de Lisboa, פורטוגל, בהנחיית הפרופסורים סנדרה ריביירו גראסה וויקטור אברו אסונסאו.
עבור התזה שלי אני מפתחת פרויקט שמטרתו לחקור את חוויות האלימות וההטרדה המינית (EVSH) של רופאי שיניים בעבודה.

אלימות במקום העבודה הפכה לבעיה הולכת וגוברת, בהיותה הפרה של זכויות אדם והתנהגות בלתי מתקבלת על הדעת, שאינה מתיישבת עם תנאי עבודה הוגנים. מחקרים הראו כי מגזר הבריאות נחשב לאחד המועדים ביותר לחשיפה לאלימות במקום העבודה. תוצאות סקירה שיטתית עדכנית מראות כי הסוג השכיח ביותר של אלימות נגד אנשי מקצוע בתחום בריאות הפה הוא התעללות פיזית ומילולית והטרדה מינית, אולם חסרים מחקרים המתמקדים באלימות במקום העבודה במיוחד נגד רופאי שיניים.

מטרת המחקר היא ליצור ולאמת כלי להערכת EVSH של רופאי שיניים בעבודה ולהשוות את התדירות והשכיחות של מעשים כאלה בין מדינות. לעת עתה, אני מתמקד במדינות שהן חלק מהפדרציה האירופית לשיננית.
